Introductory Wheel Throwing Class

This is a introductory 2 - 2.5 hour class that will give you the chance to try out a potter's wheel and get your hands dirty, while our instructor helps you to make your own unique pot. We provide everything you need. All you have to do is come ready to have a good time. We will fire up to three pieces of your choice and they will be ready for pickup in about 2 weeks. It is your responsibility to pick up your pieces within 30 days after they are fired. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE CLAY FIRING AND PICK UP SCHEDULE

Please wear clothes and shoes you can get dirty, trim your fingernails, and leave your watch and rings at home. Clay is messy and we don't want you to lose anything.You are also welcome to bring a beverage and snack of your choice. We recommend coming a little early if you plan to bring a snack as your hands will be getting dirty once the class begins.

Wheel Throwing Open Studio
Are you an experienced potter who needs a place to create and fire your work? Come to our wheel throwing open studio! This is not a beginner class - participants must have previous wheel throwing experience and be able to work independently. Please bring an old towel to wipe your hands and for clean up. Cost for the 2 hour studio time is $15. Participants must purchase clay from us - no outside clay is permitted. Clay cost is $15 for 25 pounds. If you want us to fire your pottery here there is a firing cost of $5 per piece (includes bisque and glaze). Please bring your own pottery tools or you may purchase a set from us. Cost for pottery tools is $15 per set. If you are enrolled in our Beginning Wheel Throwing 6 Week Course you do not need to purchase clay or pottery tools if you register for wheel throwing open studio that takes place during your 6 week course.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. NO WALK INS.

Wheel Throwing 6 Week Pottery Course

In this class students will learn the basic wheel throwing techniques. Each class meets once a week for 2½ hours to teach the basics of wheel thrown pottery: wedging, centering, pulling, trimming, glazing, and basic studio etiquette.  Included in the cost is everything you need while you are in class: basic pottery tools, buckets and towels, 25 lbs of clay. You will be responsible for your clay and if necessary you can purchase an additional 25lbs of clay and clay tools.

6 week session cost: $200

Community Education Wheel Throwing Pottery Classes

These classes are offered through Community Education, but take place at Rumriver Art Center. Registration is completed through Community Ed by clicking on the links below. 

Pottery Wheel-Throwing Introduction - # AL077-3C40 - – S1
Join staff from Rum River Art Center in this intro to wheel throwing class. Gain hands-on experience using a potter's wheel while receiving guidance in learning how to make your own unique pot. You will produce up to three pieces of your choice; they will be fired and ready for pickup in about 2 weeks. Class held at Rum R iver Art Center in Anoka. See website for class requirements. Please wear clothes and shoes you can get dirty, trim your fingernails, and leave your watch and rings at home. Y All supplies included. Please note no refunds will be given two weeks prior to the start of class.

Please wear clothes and shoes you can get dirty, trim your fingernails, and leave your watch and rings at home. You are also welcome to bring a beverage and snack of your choice. Included in the cost is everything you need while you are in class: basic pottery tools, buckets and towels, 25 lbs of clay, You will be responsible for your clay and if necessary you can purchase an additional 25 lbs. of clay and clay tools.
