Rum River Art Center will be offering Summer Art Camps starting on June 11th and running through August 31st 2012. Each camp is a week long and will focus on various art media from drawing and painting to pottery and sculpture. We also will offer a fine arts camp that includes different mediums every day.

Art projects vary from session to session. Students may enroll in more than one session. Class size will be limited to a minimum of 5 students and a maximum of 12 students per session.

Times are 1:30pm to 4:30pm
(Early drop off and late pick-up available)
Camp Fees:
Morning 5 day is $100 per session

Afternoon 3 day is $75 per session

Individual morning or afternoon camp is $30 per camp
Painting, watercolor, hand-built pottery/sculpture, nature art journaling, paper mache and fine arts have a material fee
Payment Methods;

Payment is due on or before the first day of camp
Cash, Check, credit card or PayPal
Snacks:
Healthy snack and water provided  (lunch is not provided)

Can't make it for the full week session? We also offer make up days or these options:

Daily Camp Fee:

$30 per camp or $50 for Morning and Afternoon camp combined

Sampler Camp Fee:

Six single sessions $110  ( can be used for a morning or afternoon session)

Summer Camp Schedule-  
The morning session is Monday Through Friday from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
Afternoon session is Tuesday through Thursday 1:30pm to 4:30pm (the lessons are different).
A camper can take a full day camp Tuesday through Thursday.
Each camp must have a minimum of 5 campers (schedule subject to change).

Summer Art Day Camp Programs


ANIMAL DRAWING: Campers will learn to draw and paint their favorite animals from dogs and cats to icky toads and snakes through the use of color, shading, composition, and perspective. We will use Henri Rousseau, Pablo Picasso and Frida Kahlo and many more as our inspiration. In this workshop campers will utilize Pencils, watercolor pencils, markers, and pastels .....sponging, spattering, and soft wash techniques to produce a series of masterpieces as they create animals in a whole new light. Part of this camp will be outdoors for drawing animals in their enviroment.

NATURE ART JOURNALING:  Nature is a open canvas as we walk outside to find our subject. We will draw plants, animals and bugs that we see along the beautiful Rum River. Observational drawing is a tool that encourage looking closely and recording what you experience. The campers will create a nature journal of their very own and head outside to draw about what they see, hear, smell and wonder. Students will have chance to use different mediums to create their vision. This camp will be outdoors for entire camp rain or shine.

HAND-BUILT POTTERY/SCULPTURE: The hand-built pottery/clay sculpture classes will take students through process of working with clay, using under glazes and glaze. Different glazes and techniques will be incorporated into this workshop. Clay is an exciting and magical material. In clay sculpture class children will learn the art and craft of clay while having fun and exploring their creativity. Hand-built pottery is a unique program offering a total hands-on experience while learning the techniques of shaping clay into Pinch Pots, designing and constructing Slab Projects, building unique Coil Vessels, Clay Decoration, and Glazing. Come learn the art and craft of clay.

WATERCOLOR Watercolor is delightful, fresh, exciting, messy, delicate and tender, all at the same time. It is an enormously popular painting medium and has been since the nineteenth century. The most brilliant quality of watercolors is transparency and in this workshop students will learn how to use it in their watercolor paintings. We will learn how to use the palette, how to mix color in order to have the right shade, and a lot about brushes and brushstrokes. We will also take our watercolor outdoors for a nature painting. In this camp we will learn a lot about composition, light and form, tonal painting, and negative space.

ACRYLIC PAINTING: Acrylic paint is a very versatile medium. It can be used in thin washes like watercolors or in thicker strokes similar to oils but with a quicker drying time. Acrylic painting introduces the beginning art student to the basics from how to handle the paint and its tools to introducing techniques used by professional artists to produce beautiful paintings. We use masters like Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso  and many others as inspiration for our work. Each student will complete two to Three paintings during the week.

MYTHICAL BEASTS: In this workshop campers will be able to create
dragons to Unicorns and more. We will explore the fantasy of Mythical beasts. Campers will be able to create their own mythical beast or mix a real animal and mythical beast together. We will use pencil, paint, pastels and more to create our mythical beast.

FINE ART MIXED MASTERS: Mixed Masters camp uses Rembrandt to Picasso as our inspiration. Each day we will use different materials and techniques to create artistic projects that stimulate the imagination. Students will experience drawing, watercolor and acrylic painting along with art outdoors along the river.

BIRDS AND BUGS: Campers will learning and creating art using birds and bugs. We will use birds and bugs we see outside to the ones that can only be found in the rain forest.
This camp will use some observational drawing to encourage looking closely and recording what you experience. Campers will use drawing and watercolor to create their work.

Paper Mache (8/6 to 8/10)
The Paper Mache class gives the students the opportunity work with paper mache medium to create several projects. Artists like Picasso, Miro and Warhol are used to inspire the students projects.

MIXED MEDIA FINE ARTS:
Campers will learn how to use different mediums together to create their work. Each day we will use different materials and techniques to create artistic projects that stimulate the imagination. Students will experience drawing, watercolor and acrylic painting along with art outdoors along the river.

Single Day Workshop - July 2, 3,5, and 6

With the fouth of July falling in the middle of the week, we will offer single day workshops the week of July 2nd. The workshops will include Acrylic painting, Mixed media, Watercolor painting, and bugs and birds. The single day workshops have a morning and afternoon session. The cost is $20 per session.
